Celebrate Park and Recreation Professionals Day with Carlisle Borough!
July is Park and Recreation Month across the nation, with Friday, July 21 being Park and Recreation Professionals Day. In Carlisle Borough, recreation opportunities are plentiful, with 18 public parks, an outdoor swimming pool, a multi-purpose community center, a 15-mile network of trails for walking, running, and biking, and much more.
Join Carlisle Borough in celebrating Park and Recreation Professionals Day on July 21. This day honors those who plan, provide, and operate our parks, trails, programs, and facilities for the Carlisle community. This year, Carlisle Borough is one of three departments in the state being featured by the Pennsylvania Recreation and Park Society (PRPS).
“We owe thanks to our dedicated Parks and Recreation Department staff who tirelessly work to enhance the quality of life in our community through their commitment, creativity, and passion for creating vibrant and inclusive spaces that bring joy and well-being to our residents,” said Mayor Sean Shultz. “They are our champions of fun, the caretakers of our natural spaces, and the architects of unforgettable moments in our lives.”
The Park and Recreation Professionals’ Day Celebration takes place from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Carlisle Community Pool, 1236 Franklin Street. Admission to the pool during this time will be only $5 for everyone. There will be plenty of entertainment for all ages at the celebration, including music, games, an inflatable obstacle course, and plenty of food trucks. A representative from PRPS will also be on-hand to honor our Parks and Recreation staff. In the event of rain, the celebration will move to the Stuart Community Center, 415 Franklin Street.
“Carlisle Parks and Recreation employs over 70 part-time, seasonal, volunteer, and full-time staff. On July 21, we will celebrate these dedicated individuals who help provide essential services and make Carlisle a better place to live, work, and play. We invite the Carlisle community to come and join in on the celebration,” said Andrea Crouse, Director of Carlisle Parks and Recreation.
The theme for this year’s Park and Recreation Month is good Gratitude, and we invite our community to share with us the reasons they love our parks and facilities and to thank the people who keep these amenities safe, clean, and inviting. It can be as simple as saying thank you to an instructor, day camp counselor, lifeguard, or coach. You can also express gratitude on social media by using the hashtag #GoodforPAGratitude throughout the month of July.
According to a survey by the National Park & Recreation Association, 93% of U.S. adults say their mental health is improved by services offered by local park and rec programs.
