New Community Garden

A new community garden has sprouted up, just in time for spring!Garden Build 2

Located at Grandview Court near the intersection of K and West Streets, this project was made possible by a $10,000 grant issued to the Borough of Carlisle from Healthy Babies Bright Futures and the Mayors Innovation Project. The garden features individual raised beds for growing vegetables, a stone pathway, and plantings including daylilies, hydrangeas, and ornamental grasses. The Cumberland County Housing and Redevelopment Authorities will handle the initial plantings and work with Grandview Court residents who want to use the new garden.
 


Community gardens provide a wide range of benefits. They provide access to fresh, locally grown produce, which canGarden Build 3 improve nutrition and food security. Community gardens can also help the environment by improving air and soil quality, increasing the biodiversity of plants and animals, and promoting waste reduction through composting. These green spaces can also enhance the social well-being of the community by bringing people together and fostering a sense of belonging and pride in place.
